OCR: Black BoxU ser ' S Guide The main reason is speed. Every INIT you have slows your computer down to a certain extent because they intercept the Mac's operating system. For instance, lets says you have a menu clock and a menu application launcher. Both INITs must intercept the same portions of the Mac's operating system, so you end up with a long chain of command before the operating system does anything; and this all takestime. With Black Box, this chain doesn't exist, and the few places that Black Box intercepts the operating system are optimized for speed.
